Drissy Parker-Never On Schedule
Idris 'Drissy Parker' Lamina, based in the UK, native of Zimbabwe, lineage of Nigeria released his first body of work; Never On Schedule this year on the 24th of February. He terms himself as a "Yoruba boy, Ndebele blooded".
Drissy Parker, who was born Idris Lamina in London where he resides today, is a child of Zimbabwean & Nigerian roots. Having moved to Harare at the age of 9 and being educated in Zimbabwe until Sixth Form has been making music since the tender age of 11. A fan of freestyle rapping, Drissy quickly became popular among the youth of his School at Prince Edward School & later at Scripture Union at Speciss College where he was known as the go to rapper. Drissy built his identity around his childhood hero Spiderman, a character that took on adversity and became a superhero, thus being someone bigger than himself, which Drissy also felt he was like with music being his superpower, and so was born Drissy Parker. The birth of Never On Schedule started out with some freestyle drops on Twitter and avatar designs bringing in a whole different type of marketing of music on social media. Being encouraged by the positive response, Drissy began to seriously turn his considerations to channeling his efforts towards a completed body of work. The production of the album was fraught with delays most notably the pushback from the original date of March 31st which created hurdles that sort to frustrate Drissy but with dogged determination despite the backlash of the fans through the delays, Drissy persevered and on 24th February 2012, the long awaited mixtape was launched. The project features the likes of talented singer/song-writer/rapper/producer Simba Tagz & Award winning producer Ezra "The Gobbla" Murembeni. "This mixtape is not just a mixtape but a story and a journey of my life almost like the gift and curse of life, love, pain, hope, doubt.. you name it" says Drissy. With radio play in Australia, UK, Zambia and Zimbabwe,a feature in Farai Toady as one of the "Zimbos To Watch" and a nomination for Best Male Artist at the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards 2012 so early in Drissy's career, the future is definitely bright for the rising MC.
